Take A Party
Efford: The Capital of Culture for Plymouth
25 June 12pm – 7pm
Torridge Way, Efford
This one-day art festival explores the Take A Part programme and marks Efford as a cultural capital for Plymouth. Take A Part has been managing a programme of artistic engagement with the Efford community during the ongoing regeneration of the area.
Artist Anne Marie Culhane will deliver an outdoor soup café and market stall of the produce made locally since Grow Efford started. Alain Pezard will recreate a cob sculpture with the Crazy Glue and Magic Hour groups. Films made by young people for Take A Part will be screened.
Efford Community Vision will launch a programme devised with the collective WochenKlausur, to use public space creatively and explore a community space. Efford FM will re-broadcast online and live with Mark Vernon, Neil Rose and Efford Youth Centre. There will be street dancing and community awards to acknowledge the support and collaboration of the residents. The Take A Part programme was developed in Efford to give a voice to the regeneration process. Socially engaged art has been firmly placed at the heart of the community. Investing in the areas of health, young people, physical improvement, heritage and community cohesion. Take A Part has worked directly with community groups, residents and organisations in Efford. The result has involved artists both from Plymouth and the UK as well as Portugal, France and Austria coming to this otherwise very discrete community to explore its future with the residents.
