Looking, Thinking and Making - Exeter Phoenix

In Autumn Term 2009, children in Years 2 & 6 at St Sidwells Primary School visited Exeter Contemporary Open exhibition.

Exeter Contemporary Open is the annual exhibition showcasing a selection of the best regional and national emerging artists working in a wide range of media.

Looking, Thinking and Making

The two visits were planned together with Hayley Dymond, art coordinator and Year 2 class teacher, the Education Manager Catherine Cartwright, and Gallery Education volunteer Lucy Drury. Together we discussed the artwork, picked out themes, and explored options for the practical activity. The hour and half visit is roughly spilt into half looking and talking (both in small groups and as a whole class of 30) with the latter half spent doing something practical which encouraged the children to express and consolidate themes and ideas expressed in the exhibition.
